TLDR; The revamped The Platinum Card® from American Express is offering a unique benefit—a $300 Lululemon credit. With this credit, you can spend up to 75$ at Lululemon quarterly. An amazing offer (assuming you remember to use it).
This Lululemon credit that American Express is offering with their revamped flagship card is a super interesting add on from the old benefits. You would think that with the addition of this credit it would mean removing the $300 Equinox credit. But you can get both!
This credit can turn out to be a great option for buying clothes for yourself or as a gift to family and friends.
What is Lululemon?
Lululemon is a Canadian athletic apparel retailer that’s known for their athletic wear clothing. They originated in 1998 in Vancouver, Canada. They have a strong emphasis on creating a community and a brand around an active and healthy lifestyle, selling women’s and men’s clothing, focusing on athletic wear. Lululemon sells more clothing to women but their men’s clothing is a growing category.
They also tend to market to an upper middle-class and upper class group. Lulu products are on the pricier side but there’s an emphasis on longevity and quality. I find their clothes to be affordable for myself if I only buy a pair of pants or shorts once or twice a year.
For women, the most popular items include leggings, shorts and bras. Some of the most popular items include “Align leggings” and “Hotty Hot shorts.” I did some research online and that’s what I found. I also asked my sister and girlfriend and they confirmed this anecdotally. The Hotty Hot shorts start at $68 while the Align leggings start at $88 for their less popular styles.
For men, the most popular items include pants and shorts. Some of the most popular items include “ABC pants,” “ABC joggers” and “Pace-Breaker shorts.” My personal favorite are the ABC pants. Men’s ABC pants start at $99 but increase for the most popular styles. The ABC joggers have a bigger price range going from $64 all the way up to $128. The Pace Breaker shorts go from $39 up to $78.
What can the $300 Lululemon credit be used on?
The Lululemon credit is intriguing as you can buy anything from the store and get reimbursed for the credit amount. You can purchase items on lululemon.com or go in person to their stores they have all over the country. One thing to remember is that this credit excludes outlets.
Is the $300 Lululemon credit useful?
The Lululemon credit definitely ranks towards the top of my list in terms of credits offered for the The Platinum Card® from American Express. Before hearing about this Lululemon credit for the The Platinum Card® from American Express, I can say that I’ve been a customer of Lululemon’s for at least five years. It makes it so you don’t have to worry about an extra clothing expense.
Does the $300 Lululemon credit help justify the annual fee on the revamped The Platinum Card® from American Express?
So as you know there’s been a lot of news in the past few days about the The Platinum Card® from American Express. In our prediction of the revamped The Platinum Card® from American Express here, we talked about how you can get an estimated $1,000+ in value from the new updates on the card. Since then, we have found out that there is a $200 Oura credit while the The Platinum Card® from American Express is keeping all of its old benefits.
American Express markets the The Platinum Card® from American Express as having over $3,500 in value. While there’s no way I will use all of the credits offered on the card, it makes you think about how there’s only so many you need to take advantage of for the card to be worth it. Let’s say you use the $200 in Uber Cash, $400 in restaurant Resy credit, the $300 in Digital Entertainment credit, $200 Airline fee credit and the $300 Lululemon credit. That’s already $1,400 in value. And that’s only some of the benefits that the The Platinum Card® from American Express is offering. And you don’t want to forget about the welcome bonuses you might be eligible for.
Clothes are a necessity for everyone and if you can get high quality clothing for a fraction of the price (or free), why not?
I would value the $300 Lululemon credit at $300 as I would shop there for clothes every quarter and not have to spend a dime if I didn’t want to splurge on a bigger item like ABC pants or joggers.
My review on Lululemon
I first got into Lululemon through my grandfather who bought me two pairs of ABC pants. Obviously it was nice because I was able to test them out without paying a hefty price tag. The pants were comfy and sleek-looking. I would wear them as part of my pants rotation throughout the week. They became an instant favorite.
When I was in college wearing these pants, I could wear them to class or to a party. The pants were flexible in that they had a clean look while also being trendy. The shorts were quite nice as well. I wore the Pace-Breaker shorts and were great for going to the gym or playing all kinds of sports inside and outside. Those shorts had a more casual athletic vibe and were super comfy. Very breathable too.
I still wear Lululemon clothes to this day. Pretty much everyday I go to work, I wear Lululemon pants. I have green, brown, black, grey and maroon ABC pants. I have pants that are regular fitting and slim-fitting. The pants that are regular fitting are definitely more professional but both work. If you are going for a really formal event, these pants wouldn’t work—you would need to get traditional suit pants.
And I still wear the shorts too! I wear them when I go to the gym after work or when I go to play indoor and outdoor volleyball. They’re comfy to wear in the house too on a work from home day.
The other thing I’d say about Lululemon is that they are really good with their return policies (although they were better before). Let’s say you buy a pair of pants and they rip in 11 months. As long as you return them less than a year after buying them, you can get a full refund. Just make sure you bought them on your Lululemon account.
The previous policy that Lululemon was so good I’m surprised it lasted so long. Before, you could get clothes from Lululemon and if there was a defect at any time after buying them you could get a refund. Even if you did not have a receipt or buy them on a Lululemon account. I had done this 2-3 times with pants. They were and are pretty lenient with the reasoning for return. You could get a refund for your pants fading in color potentially. It does seem like the policy is more strict nowadays but it's worth a shot.
Lululemon clothing is definitely on the higher-end for athletic wear. One way to avoid the high price tag is to check out the sale rack that is available at most Lululemon stores. I have found that the Lululemon sale rack is astronomically better than most clothing stores’ sale racks. Oftentimes, I find that other stores have clothes that no one would ever buy on the sale rack. That is most definitely not the case for Lululemon. I have found pants and shorts on the sale rack for myself. One thing to note is usually at outlets the options on the sale rack are more extensive but outlets do not qualify for the Lululemon credit on the The Platinum Card® from American Express.
Final Remarks
The $300 Lululemon credit on the The Platinum Card® from American Express is quite a different credit from most of the credits that credit cards offer. However, I really like the idea of it. I can easily buy a pair of shorts for under the $75 quarterly credit or get some pants for at least 50% off. If I feel like I don’t need something that quarter I can get shorts or ABC leggings for someone like my girlfriend or sister as a gift. The Lululemon credit is a clear win in my books. What do you think?
