If you haven’t already, make sure to check your emails! You might’ve received an email from Chase Sapphire Preferred about the changes coming to your card, most notably the introduction of the Points Boost program on Chase Travel℠.

If you read through this email, you would notice that it first goes over the Points Boost program and how it works, which we also cover in another article if you’re interested in learning more about how the program works with a deeper analysis.

If you made it further down the email, you’d also come across a little surprise: Chase is offering a complimentary $50 credit toward Chase Travel℠, on top of the $50 annual hotel credit that we already get from the Sapphire Preferred.

How The $50 Bonus Credit Works

The credit seems very simplistic and easy to use, but it brings some ambiguity about how it works. In the email, the credit is advertised as “$50 credit toward Chase Travel, on us”.

This is slightly different than the $50 annual hotel credit that is already offered as part of the Sapphire Preferred, as the annual credit can only be applied to hotel bookings made through Chase Travel℠.

The $50 promotional credit is applicable to anything booked through Chase Travel℠, meaning that you can use it beyond booking hotels, such as booking flights and rental cars. The promotional credit also works in a different way from the annual $50 hotel credit.

The annual $50 hotel credit comes in the form of a statement credit, meaning that you will have up to $50 applied to your account annually on hotel accommodation purchases made using your Sapphire Preferred card through Chase Travel℠.

The $50 promotional credit comes in the form of a one-time use voucher and is valid for one year from the date it becomes available to you in Chase Travel℠.

Unlike a statement credit, the promotional credit can be applied at checkout for purchases made through Chase Travel℠. Since the credit is valid for a one-time use only, if you apply the credit to a transaction less than $50, you will forfeit the remaining balance.

It is also worth noting that the promotional credit is not valid for purchases made through FROSCH, or through Reserve Travel Designers unless booked directly through Chase Travel℠.

Who Is Eligible for The Promotional Credit

The $50 promotional credit is advertised as being available to cardmembers who joined within the last year. I got the email on June 23, 2025, when Chase rolled out major, sweeping changes across multiple cards. I had applied for the Sapphire Preferred about a month earlier in May, so I was eligible for the promotional credit and thus received the email.

However, a friend of mine who also applied for the Sapphire Preferred in May of this year didn’t seem to see the email in his inbox, which is a little confusing. The verbiage of the email isn’t completely clear, but cardmembers who joined within the last year should be Sapphire Preferred cardholders who applied for their card between June 23, 2024, and June 23, 2025.

If you didn’t get the email about the credit, and you’re unsure if you’re eligible or not, it’d be best to try checking the Chase Travel℠ portal to see if the credit is being offered to you to apply at checkout.

Final Remarks

If you're a newer Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholder, this $50 Chase Travel℠ promotional credit is a sweet little bonus that can go a long way. Unlike the regular hotel credit, this one gives you added flexibility to use it toward flights, rental cars, or other travel bookings directly on the Chase Travel℠ portal.

Since it's a one-time-use voucher valid for one year, make sure to plan your redemption wisely, as you won’t get any leftover value back if your purchase totals less than $50. And if you’re not sure whether you’re eligible, it never hurts to log into your Chase Travel℠ account and check. With Chase continuing to roll out exciting new perks, staying up-to-date can help you make the most of your card benefits.
